what happens when one day you’re looking back on a life you don’t recognize. when the person you see living your life is not you but a stranger wandering where you should be. all you can do i wonder, wonder how you got so far, to this place so far away from all you had hoped to become and are now only a broken shell of who you used to be. how did you get here

i’ve heard it said that there are three types of friends in life:

friends for a reason, friends for a season, and friends for life.

i used to think that we would be friends for life. our friendship was something special. it was not a friendship that takes us way back to the days when we were small but one that one day began and that was it. as soon as it began we were best friends. i thought a friendship like ours was one that would last a lifetime, but i was wrong. however, i know that we were not simply just friends for a season. our friendship meant more then that, at least to me. we were friends for a reason. we were friends so that i could see what it meant to really have a best friend. to have someone show me how i deserve to be treated. to show me that i was good enough, that i was not alone. and also to show me how it feels to be hurt. because all though it is excruciatingly painful, pain is an inevitable part of life. our friendship meant the world to me and i will not forget, i could never forget it.

but sometimes there are parts of our lives that need to come to a close. chapters that we need to finish. and even though its hard i know that our chapter needed to be finished. our stories need to continue on but our chapter together will not be forgotten. i could never forget our friendship and i am glad that now i can look back on that time without having to fight back the tears.

and i realize that i did love you. not in the head over heels lets get married way. but in the best friend i care about you more then i could ever possibly explain with words kind of way. you know parts of me that no one else does. and because i love you i have to let you go. because i need to really move on so that i can be happy and i cant do that if i think there is even the slightest chance i would have you to fall back on. so for right now i need to learn how to be okay with being alone.

so i am glad to have had you, my friend not for a season and not for life, but my friend for a reason.
